M2O’s young Hero… Travis Baptiste!

The Foote-Maliko 14′ Series 2 just took out an amazing 7th PLACE Overall in the M2O, and won STOCK Division.

Congratulations to Maui’s 16yr old Travis Baptiste for his outstanding results in the M2O. Travis took out 1st Place in the 14′ Stock Division, and an incredible 7th Place Overall. Out of the huge line-up of heavy-weight Unlimited boards only 5 of them came in ahead of Travis on the Foote-Maliko 14′. The other board was a prone paddleboard.

Travis was riding the Series 2 – 25″w Foote-Maliko 14′. His account of the race was that it was very slow conditions most of the way, with the last leg being extremely difficult. Travis’s race time was 5hr 22mins 59secs. Many long-time competitors are saying it was one of the toughest M2O’s due to the poor conditions presented by the encroaching Tropical Storm Flossie. Travis attributed his win to the outstanding design features of this board which lightened the load for the gruelling channel race. The board Travis was riding weighs in under 20lbs.

The Foote-Maliko 14′ Series 2 design evolved to cater for the increasing competitive downwind racing market. The Series 2 enables you to ride a narrower/faster board without compromising stability. This gives you an easier, faster and more enjoyable ride with less fatigue!

808-Foote SUP Production Boards have arrived

8’10” x 29.75″w

Bill Foote Hawaii and 808 Boards have teamed up to bring you a new and unique SUP line-up that guarantees you top-quality innovative design and endless enjoyment for all skill levels!
The unique design features of our new 808-Foote SUP line-up make it easy for you to ‘feel the water’, giving you a distinct advantage in honing your water-skills.

We combine progressive design features with a unique construction method that gives you not only great performance but also durability. Topped off with a high-quality finish and attention to detail, these boards definitely standout from the crowd.

The construction method utilizes well thought-out blends of fibre-glass cloth, carbon-fibre, unidirectional fibreglass tape, PVC foam, and T stringers… giving these boards unique flex and twist patterns for a springy and lively feel. The layers of material are then vacuum laminated reinforcing the board’s structure, adding tremendous strength, and keeping them light-weight. The boards are then finished with quality polyurethane paint, clear coated and polished. Our unique construction method gives you the strongest, lightest weight, most durable boards on the water.

Additional features of our high quality finish include – original USA Futures Fin boxes reinforced with high-density closed-cell foam backing making them water-tight and strong. We use top quality Gore-Tex vents to let gases escape during high temperature but will still keep water out. The new 808 SUP’s also have a stylish carbon-fiber reinforced rail in the tail for shredding hard. We have incorporated built-in carbon-fiber handles, and high-quality EVA custom deck-pad with a tail-kick on the smaller more progressive models. Our factory has strict quality control to insure every board is built to last.

Come demo a board today and tell us what you think…. we have a full range of sizes and designs to suit all skill levels

Composite Sandwich Construction Wave SUP

9’0″ x 31.5″ x 4.25″

Seeing the trend of wave SUP’s going down in size… I decided to also experiment with producing my Custom SUP’s using a light-weight /super-strong construction method. I made this 9’0″ the same way I have been building light and strong sailboards for many years.. via composite or sandwich construction.

Starting with super light low density 1 lb core, I hot wired my rocker to the exact thickness I needed. The board was then templated and the bottom shaped in. A high density PVC skin was vacuum bagged onto the bottom with a layer of 4 oz. cloth. The board then had the rails shaped and another PVC foam skin was vacuumed to the deck with another layer of cloth and a carbon patch in the stance area.. It was then tuned up again in the shaping room to crisp the vee and tune the rail tuck… the resulting super-strong blank was then glassed in normal fashion

This particular board has a red opaque, single 6 oz bottom and a single 6 oz deck lamination. In retrospect… for the next one I will laminate the outside with 4 oz and make it even lighter….

Surfing characteristics of the board were impressive with the lightness and the responsiveness.

I would be interested in getting some feedback on   the value of this technology in the market of Custom Wave SUP’s. The board is on display and available for test-ride and purchase at Foote-Surfboards Maui Retail and Rental outlet … 808 Boards Lahaina, Maui  www.808boards.com
